Who is steve whisler?

Family First

Steve was born in Pennsylvania in 1968 and grew up in south Florida after his father left the Army. After high school, Steve joined the Navy to be a Persian-Farsi linguist and moved to Maryland in 1988 to serve at Fort Meade. He bought his first home in Catonsville in 1993, retired from the Navy in 2006, and moved to Carroll County in 2014.

He and his wife, Jen (North Carroll High graduate), live in south Carroll County with their four sons. Two work in the local community, another graduated from Liberty HS in May, and the youngest attends a Carroll County public school.

Retired US Navy Officer

Steve served 20 years in both the enlisted and officer ranks. Highly decorated, he earned the Combat Action Ribbon and Air Medal after accumulating over 700 flight hours.

He currently serves on the Carroll County Veterans Advisory Council and has written several articles about veteran healthcare issues. Steve also works throughout the mid-Atlantic to educate military members on how to claim their well-deserved benefits.

Issues and concerns

Keep Schools Open and Safe

Get Politics Out of the Classroom

Get Politics Out of the Classroom

The research is clear ... kids suffer academically when they miss in-person instruction. Virtual learning is not enough -- we must keep our public schools open, safe, and free of distractions.

Get Politics Out of the Classroom

Get Politics Out of the Classroom

Get Politics Out of the Classroom

As a teacher, I've seen politics infiltrate our classrooms and distract learning. We need curriculum and policies that empower teaching kids how to think critically ... not what to think.

Parents Must Have a Voice

Get Politics Out of the Classroom

Increase Career Opportunities

Every teacher will tell you that the best students are those whose parents are involved. We need, and I want, parents to partner with schools and the Board of Education to ensure success.

Increase Career Opportunities

Keep and Attract the Best Teachers

Increase Career Opportunities

Every child should have a chance to go to college, but not all should. Students need paths that won't produce immense college debt. Our kids need more vocational and trade school opportunities.

Keep and Attract the Best Teachers

Keep and Attract the Best Teachers

Keep and Attract the Best Teachers

We have incredible teachers in Carroll! We must keep, attract, and care for those who give so much every day. I will work with elected officials for fair pay and incentives that stay within our budget.

Oversight and Accountability

Keep and Attract the Best Teachers

Keep and Attract the Best Teachers

I'll use classroom experiences, formal training, and senior executive skills to prioritize funding, set sensible policies, and work with CCPS leaders to keep Carroll County values in our schools.

We Must Fix Learning Losses

We Must Fix Learning Losses

We Must Fix Learning Losses

We must address learning losses that our kids experienced during the pandemic. In particular, elementary & middle school students missed meaningful instruction and practice sessions.

Keep Carroll Schools Strong

We Must Fix Learning Losses

We Must Fix Learning Losses

We must continue to be a leader in education. Other counties wonder how Carroll achieves superb test scores and does so much with limited funds. I will ensure our schools stay strong.

I Will Always Listen

We Must Fix Learning Losses

I Will Always Listen

I will always listen to all perspectives, rely upon experts, and challenge stakeholders to tell the entire story. I will never compromise my values -- kids, teachers, and our school system will be first.

Your VOTE is your VOICE...LETS HEAR IT!

I'd appreciate your vote! Early voting in Maryland's Primary starts in just ...
